About Us

Humewood House is a Young Parent Resource Center, founded in 1912. It is a non-profit, charitable organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and staffed by professionals and volunteers. Its services are offered both at Humewood House and throughout the west area of Greater Toronto, often in collaboration with other social services and health and educational facilities.

Our Vision Statement:

Humewood House will impact a greater number of pregnant and parenting young women by being responsive to community needs, and creative in the use of resources. We will continue to learn about the factors that contribute to healthy infant development, and to share that knowledge with young mothers and with the community. We will seek greater support by increasing our funding base and volunteer involvement.

Humewood House Values Statement:

Our philosophy of service includes the following set of values which are integral to our work:

  • The belief in each person's worth, dignity and
    potential to make choices
  • A non-judgemental approach to individuals and their choices
  • Inclusion of clients in all decisions pertaining to
    their involvement with Humewood House
  • An atmosphere of anti-bias, anti-racism and racial equality
  • The belief in the value of continued learning
    and self awareness
  • Participatory decision making at all levels of the organization
  • The use of all available resources to benefit clients
  • Partnerships and being an integral part of the community
